Our IOLA website is also part of the African American Women website. Our group researched African American Women in areas of Judicial and Political Arenas. We chose the name IOLA because of our studies on Ida B. Wells. During the period in which she crusaded against Lynching, she used a pen name to help ensure her safety against the Klu Klux Klan and other whites that threatened her life. That pen name was IOLA. Our site is a tribute to her bravery and ingenuity. Her perseverance and dedication to justice inspired many other black women, and they too are included on our site.
